Top 15 Favorite Hiking Conversations Topics to Make Hiking Even More Interesting and Fun

Favorite Hiking Conversations

Hiking is one of many inexpensive, economical, and a really fun hobby. It is a great way to get outdoors, exercise, immerse, and reconnect with nature to disconnect with digital screens and help you stay out of trouble. Some people prefer a quiet hike and some prefer to lighten up the mood or talk up a storm during a hike. Here we are taking a look at top favorite hiking conversations to make your hike less aggravating and awkward.

These conversation topics are suitable for people you already know, get to know, or make new friends or can be used when going on the first (few) dates without distractions.

  1. Play riddles

Hiking in it itself is fun and coupled with some riddles during hikes is even more awesome. They either make people laugh or they would make people think you are extraordinary. Either way, you will get an acknowledgment for trying

My favorite famous riddles are: –

  • What do you call a Batman who doesn’t go to church? Christian Bale
  • Do you know Hello Kitty doesn’t have a mouth? Yes, because it speaks from the heart
  • Why did Tigger look into the toilet bowl? To look for Pooh

2. Name and share your favorite hiking spots/ National Parks you have been to or been on your list

This is a fun topic that could lead to fond memories or not. This way you are bound to learn about other places and maybe reminisce about the place together. It could also potentially lead to your next trip together! Isn’t that special?

3. Play “Would you rather game”

If you aren’t into serious talks, play the “Would you rather” game. This technically can be played anywhere, and I’ve played this in a long car ride and it was very fun. For example,

i) Would you rather fart in the elevator with the person you trying to impress or have a terrible stomach ache during an important meeting?

ii) Would you rather be in a world without music or pasta/rice/ noodles?

iii) Would you rather have the absent taste of sweetness or saltiness?

4. What would you do if you win a lottery?

This is a topic where money is no object and what would you do with your life? Would you still work, travel the world, invest, or start a business? This conversation helps with understanding the other person or group better and can lead to intellectual conversation where you won’t even feel like you are hiking

5. Two truths and a lie

This game helps others to learn and guess about you. Provide two truths about you and one lie and have the other party guess. For example,

  1. I can speak three languages, I was once a ballet dancer, and I can live without social media for a week.

6. Talk about things to look forward to after the hike

Talking about things you look forward to after the hike can make it more exciting for the next thing and help you plan what to do after the hike so you can keep rolling, it could be drinks to have, taking a nap, a cold shower, visit a favorite restaurant, set up a tent, etc.

7. Share the most memorable camping/ backpacking/ concert experience

When you go camping/backpacking/ concerts usually you’d have great stories to share and tell. If you have never been camping/ concerts, maybe this is the time to plan and go!

8. Ask for recommendations and tips

Asking for recommendations and tips on a topic during a hike can be useful, such as gear to buy for hiking, best recommendations on a camera, must-haves during a hike, etc.

9. What is your favorite pet and would you bring your pet to hike if they can talk?

Odd question – but it will give your hike a little spice and some good thinking.

10. Longest distance hike

I typically would like to know what is the longest in distance hike one would do in general. 3 miles? 5 mile? 10mile? 20mile?

11. What type of hike would you prefer? Mountain, woods, beach?

One way to get to know a person is by asking, what type of hike would you prefer? Mountain – like Half Dome in Yosemite National Park? Redwood trail in Redwood National Park? Torrey Pines in Torrey Pines

12. Have you encountered a wildlife or dangerous animal?

This hiking topic conversation can be turned around to have you encountered dangerous wildlife in your hiking experience? Or what wildlife would you like to sight on your hike?

13. What is the one thing you won’t leave your house without for a hike?

This could be educational and finding out what others would leave without can help you prepare your trip next time. The typical answer would likely be, a phone, first aid kit, water, etc

14. Favorite mode of transporting

No doubt that walking is a type of mode of transportation, it could be a boat, flight, gondola, etc

15. Why do you like hiking? (Link)

I hope these topic conversations help you to deepen, enlighten your relationship and make hiking more interesting. Happy conversing!
